I received the idea for Moonwise under a beautiful redwood tree…

I had just completed my herbal medicine studies and realized that I wanted to bring my love of storytelling and feminine leadership together. Moonwise has evolved (in over 6 years of podcasting) into a community and media company that weaves feminine wisdom, nature and beauty. I’m most proud of the work we do to share the voices of wisdom carriers, celebrate the sacred within women’s rites of passage and honor the seasons of life.

About the founder

Dorothee Sophie Royal is a writer and the creator of Moonwise, a podcast and online community celebrating feminine wisdom. She is the author of "Rooted,” a pregnancy journal honoring the inward path to motherhood. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her husband and two children. Follow her on Instagram @dorotheeroyal.

I was born in the Black Forest region of Germany and raised in the U.S. and abroad. After completing my degree at the University of Chicago and working in the documentary film industry, I found myself longing for a more holistic approach to life.

I’ve been privileged to study herbalism, holistic nutrition, astrology, divination and women’s leadership and sit at the feet of wisdom carriers including Susan Lipshutz, Kami McBride, Grandmother Flordemayo, Liv Mokai Wheeler, Debra Silverman, Nina Simons and Woman Stands Shining.

I am wildly grateful to my elders and teachers, my family and the mountains, waters, trees and flowers that inspire me.
